My Top Tips for the Summer Holidays!

It's that time of year again when us parents juggle everyday life, the littles, work and everything in between!

As much as you prepare for it and you know it's round the corner, it kind of creeps up on you and all of a sudden you're in the juggling zone.

Everything has been out of sorts for the last year or so and although things are starting to open up it still feels a little strange doesn't it?!

Summer Holidays with our children aren't quite what they used to be with being able to just get up and go somewhere on the spur of the moment. Everything needs to be planned within an inch of it's life and for some of us, planning doesn't come naturally.

If, like me, you've got family and friends that seem to absolutley nail this every year and without so much as breaking a sweat; I'd love to share some of my top tips for getting through this stressful time.

Summer Holidays themselves aren't stressful. Having the children home is amazing, for me anyway, but it does come with it's issues. All of a sudden you're not just running the home, working and seeing to the littles, you become everything to everyone.

Trying to fit it all in can seem like such an enormous task and it can make us feel overwhelmed.

Feeling that way is definately OK and you're not alone.

I find breaking things down can help so much and even having a visual calendar helps too.

Time is precious. Our children are precious.

I once read that we have just 18 summers with our little ones. You read that right - just 18. Looking at it like that made me realise that life is short and we need to make the most of things.

So what if life isn't perfect, I remind myself all of the time to appreciate the little things in each day. So if the Jones' next door seem more organised than you - don't worry! It really doesn't matter.

What matters is that you're all safe, well and happy. Especially after the crazy couple of years we've had.

Ok so the house will look like it's been burgled for around 6 weeks and the amount of washing I'll be doing will make me believe there are people living in my house that I've never met!

But we get to spend some quality time together. We're able to come together as a family and make some memories - that in itself is priceless.

MY TOP TIPS

  • RELAX

You can't control everything so just do your best and enjoy whatever it is you choose to do

  • PLAN

This doesn't have to be a military operation - I promise. I find that a visual calendar on the fridge helps no end. Each week I put in what activities we've got planned and I make sure everyone knows it's there.

  • TAKE TIME OUT FOR YOURSELF

Even though time for yourself may be limited, it's the little things that count isn't it. That G&T of an evening when the littles are sound asleep, the cool shower before bed, a cup of tea before everyone's woken up. All these small things add up and will help to fill your cup.

  • ENJOY

With all the guidelines changing again it can be easy to get swept up in all of that and worry over details. Try not to. When you're doing an activity with the family or when you're taking time out for yourself, remember that you're all together. Remember that time is precious and you're all doing the best you can in crazy circumstances. SMILE.

  • SHOP LOCAL

I always make a point of utilising the small local businesses around me that I know. It's been a tough time and every enquiry and order counts.

Whatever you and your family do this Summer, I hope you enjoy it and remember to embrace the little positive things that happen everyday.

Something amazing happened to me recently and I was completely blown away by it!

I was nominated for The Muddy Stiletto's award and thanks to some of my followings and customers - I'm now in the finals!
